Introducing: Jenn Floyd Photography
How long have you been in the business?
Can you tell us about this first picture?
This young lady was a student at the school I worked for, and after I took the school portraits, her mom hired me for a session outside of school. She has a diagnoses of mild autism and has a will stronger than most adults I know. I was unaware of just how resistant a child could be. I knew at that point that I needed to step up my game to be successful when capturing the moments of a child.
Now that you are more experienced, when you look at this first picture, what would you say is wrong with it?
This image is a perfect example that some children cannot, and should not, be posed. I was still in the frame of mind that direct sunlight was my friend, and still learning the manual camera settings.
Can you tell us about this second picture?
This is the same beautiful young lady. Her mom hires me every spring for pictures in the wildflowers. Mom mentioned that she would love to find some sunflowers one year, and this year I did. I have learned that she behaves much better without mom around, so, because mom trusts me, I asked to have her one afternoon and we drove an hour away to the sunflowers, after we stopped at a boutique to purchase the perfect outfits. Over the years, I have become one with my camera, and how to make the sun your friend! Mom said it was the best images ever, cried, and purchased several beautiful art displays.
What is one of the biggest things that contributed to your growth as a Photographer?
Practice and being a part of groups on Facebook. I am able to see what makes a successful image, and learn from my and other people’s mistakes.
Thank you for sharing, Jenn! Beautiful improvement.
