Introducing: Blush and Blink Photography
How long have you been in the business?
Can you tell us about this first picture?
This was a free holiday mini-session I did about a year ago to get my business started.
Now that you are more experienced, when you look at this first picture, what would you say is wrong with it?
Oh boy. I was in that place of learning manual where I couldn’t remember which way to adjust the shutter speed, or what exactly adjusting ISO actually does – so this whole session is pretty dark and noisy because I didn’t schedule for enough daylight! There was very little effort composition-wise as well. Not to mention the lovely tag sticking out on the left! Luckily, their interaction was so cute that mom loved them anyway!
Can you tell us about this second picture?
This is one of my most recent sessions with a client that was willing to get creative with me! I was confident with my settings, and shot at several exposures so that I could composite if needed to get the detail in the sky and the subject. I have also started to really establish my editing style recently, so I was not struggling behind the computer for hours upon hours. Hallelujah! I am just so proud of how this whole session came out, and my peers in The Snap Society Community lifted me up even higher when I posted a handful of the final images! I am not only consistently booking clients, but I am creatively fulfilled because I am booking ideal clients!
What is one of the biggest things that contributed to your growth as a photographer?
Online communities and resources are out of this world these days! I found Creative Live classes about a year ago, and have bought a few on sale, but mostly just tuned into live streams/recordings for free and that has given me the perfect jump start! A friend whose photography I have always admired, gave me some starter tips regarding gear and learning manual settings, and invited me to a couple photography groups on Facebook. From there I saw an ad for The Snap Society and the photography community has been insanely helpful! Fellow photogs have answered my questions and posted their own about shooting, editing, and business management that I have learned from and I am so grateful. Most recently, Jamie’s editing videos and webinar have cut my editing time in half! I had the biggest grin on my face last night because I was done editing so much sooner than usual, and was able to play games with my family!
Thank you for sharing, Jessica! Beautiful improvement.
